OUR BOARD...

Up to a maximum of 17 directors are elected for two year terms with elections staggered so that one half of the elected positions on the Board of Directors come up for election at each annual meeting of the members of the Corporation.  Two members of the Board must be Centre members, elected by Centre members.  The Board generally meets monthly.  An Annual General Meeting is held in the fall at the Centre.

The Nominating Committee is responsible for Board recruitment, preparing a slate of candidates for Board approval and for election at the Annual General Meeting each year.  The Committee reviews the skills and expertise of its continuing directors, identifies the immediate and future needs of the Centre to support its strategic directions and then prepares a list of skills, expertise required.  The Committee then seeks nominees with these skills, requesting recommendations from among the current directors as well as colleagues within the non-profit community health and social service fields.  If necessary, advertisements would be placed in targeted newspapers to recruit the skills required.  Potential candidates are contacted to explore their interest and invited to visit the Centre.  Nominations from the public may also be submitted for inclusion on the slate at the Annual General Meeting.

There are no restrictions on the Board membership with respect to racial or ethnic backgrounds, colour, place of birth, citizenship, ancestry or sex.  However, all the directors of the Board must be a community member and demonstrate support to the United Way of Greater Toronto as well as UJA Federation.
