Our Spring 2008 session begins April 6th and ends June 20th. Registration begins March 10, 2008.

Spring 2008 English Course Calendar


   All our courses are held once a week for 10 weeks (20 hours of instruction) unless marked as “5 week mini-course”. 10 week course fees are $60.00 for members and $90.00 for non-members. 5 week mini-courses are $30.00 for members and $45.00 for non-members. Computer Discovery 1: Our popular “Beginners” course. Students learn the fundamentals of using the mouse and keyboard and are introduced to the basic features of Windows. At the end of the course, students will be able to send and receive email and do basic Internet surfing. No experience is necessary.

          Sundays               April 6 – June 22                   10:00 am – 12:00 pm

          Mondays              April 7 – June 30                   9:00 am – 11:00 pm

          Wednesdays         April 9 – June 11                   2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

 

Computer Discovery 2: Intermediate Students build on the beginner level, continuing with email attachments and address books. More advanced features of Internet Surfing and word processing are introduced. Students should have taken Computer Discovery 1 or have the equivalent skills.

          Mondays              April 7 – June 30                   11:30 am – 1:30 pm

          Tuesdays              April 8 – June 17                   9:00 am – 11:00 am

 

Computer Discovery 3: Advanced course material includes “chat” and “instant messaging”, advanced email and Internet concepts and computer functionality such as installing, downloading and making CDs. Computer Discovery 2 or the equivalent skill level is required.

          Sundays               April 6 – June 22                   12:30 pm – 2:30 pm

 

 

Computer Discovery Plus (for experienced users who have an interest in computer configuration and maintenance)

Wednesdays         April 9 – June 11                   9:00 am – 11:00 am

Thursdays            April 10 – June 12                 9:00 am – 11:00 am

 

Word Processing: A 10 week course dedicated to using Microsoft Word to create attractive and professional looking documents. Formatting and printing techniques as well as using graphics is a popular part of this course. Students should have taken Computer Discovery 1 or have the equivalent skills.

          Mondays              April 7 – June 30                   2:00 – 4:00 pm

 

ZoomText: Screen magnification software as well as built-in components of Windows are used to instruct seniors with vision impairments. Taught by the CNIB, this course is a boon for visually impaired seniors who wish to use computers in their daily lives. No experience is necessary.

          Fridays                 April 11 – June 20                 9:00 – 11:00 am

 

FaceBook, YouTube and other fun stuff: * 5 Week mini-course* This 5 week mini-course is by popular demand. Students are introduced to “social networking” starting with the hugely popular FaceBook and moving on to blogging and Wikipedia. Computer Discovery 2 or the equivalent skill level is required.

          Fridays                 April 11 – May 9                   11:30 am – 1:30 pm   

Introduction to PowerPoint: *5 week mini-course* Students interested in making slide shows of their photographs, adding animation, music and special effects using Microsoft PowerPoint. Students in this 5 week mini-course should have Computer Discovery 2 or the equivalent skill level.

          Fridays                 May 16 – June 13                  11:30 am – 1:30 pm

 

 

Open Lab (Russian and English)

Prepaid $10/10 hrs, Drop in: $1.50/hr

Wednesdays         April 9 – June 11                   11:30 am – 1:30 pm
