________________
Prior to the establishment of this program in 1983, there was no organization offering recreational or educational programs geared to seniors in the Russian language, or assistance in integrating into the Canadian culture.  The Centre was a "natural" site as the Bathurst Street / Steeles Avenue area is densely populated with Russian immigrants.  Many of these immigrants came to Toronto as older adults to join their children.

The Russian Golden Age (RGA) was established to assist Russian speaking seniors, particularly new immigrants, an opportunity to adapt to a foreign society, to learn English, to socialize with people with a similar background, to establish new friendships and to connect with the necessary health and social services.

The club offers comprehensive recreational, educational, community support and wellness activities to Russian-speaking seniors ages 55+. The club provides a variety of programs in the Russian language.  It offers daytime programs such as choir, movies, chess, travel and day trips and nighttime programs such as parties, concerts and lectures.  A mobile video and book library is also available.
