ABOUT VOLUNTEERING

"Our dedicated volunteers inspire us daily." - Sharon Chapnick, Past  Volunteer Coordinator

The heart and soul of the Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living is a strongly committed core of volunteers. Approximately 500 members and non-members alike volunteer their time and energy, thus ensuring the success of the many programs offered at the Centre. Member volunteers sit on decision-making committees, escort day trips, provide information and help in the planning of many exciting programs. [Top of the page]

WHY VOLUNTEER AT THE BERNARD BETEL CENTRE FOR CREATIVE LIVING?

Volunteerism is a vehicle for personal growth and development. Our volunteers have many opportunities to share knowledge, increase skills, meet new friends and attain a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment for a job well done.

Our Centre has an active, organized volunteer program and we try to match volunteers with specific skills and interests to the job requirements. Volunteers are encouraged to express their concerns and participate in planning their own program. Our Centre is a warm, caring place to volunteer.

DO I HAVE TO BE A PAID CENTRE MEMBER OF THE CENTRE TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER?

Volunteers are strongly encouraged to become members of the Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living.  More than 80% of all of the volunteer positions are open to members only. Being a member ensures that our volunteers receive the most rewarding experience possible. We hope that ALL volunteers decide to join us as members of our Centre.

WILL I BE TRAINED BY THE CENTRE?

On-the-job orientation, workshops and training seminars are offered throughout the year. Some positions require special training, which will be provided free of charge to those accepted for those positions.  [Top of the page]

DO I GET RECOGNIZED FOR VOLUNTEERING?

Recognition of our volunteers is a chance to say "Thank You" on behalf of the staff, chairpersons and committees, as well as all of the members at the Centre.  Banquets, teas, luncheons as well as pins and certificates are given in appreciation of the many hours donated so willingly by our volunteers.
